During this 10 Day course, we will be reviewing one new SuperFood a day, and providing you with an easy delicious recipe to try to begin immediately enjoying it!  So let’s get started, it’s Day 5, boo!

THE SUPERFOOD OF THE DAY: SEAWEED!

5th  on our list of our select 10 SuperFoods is Seaweed sis! Seaweed is also called sea vegetable and macroalgae.  Not all types of seaweed can be eaten, but there are many delicious varieties, including wakame, kombu, nori and dulse.  Red seaweeds like nori are particularly high in protein. Seaweed also contains fiber, antioxidants and nurmerous vitamins and minerals, including iron, calcium, magnesium and manganese. Seaweed is rich in iodine, which is beneficial in small amounts but needs to be handled carefully by anyone who suffers from thyroid problems.

ALSO TRY: There’s really NOTHING like seaweed, if you can’t get it or if you don’t like it, but kale may be the next best thing. This leafy, green vegetable is not only full of vitamins and minerals, but the many different types of kale provide a variety of textures. My fav is lacinato kale

HOW TO BUY & ENJOY SEAWEED

  • Make your own seaweed snacks by rubbing dried nori with oil and salt then toasting it quickly i a hot, dry cast iron pan.
  • I purchase mine from Trader Joes already prepackaged, and my fav comes in Teriyaki flavor. It’s what I eat when I really want CHIPS!! (click here)
  • Sprinkle any of the dried seaweeds over salads to boost the flavor and nutrition.
  • Use large sheets of raosted seaweed to wrap up sandwich and salad fillings for a quick nutritious lunch sis!

DID YOU KNOW: Seaweed is also called the Undersea Superfood? It’s full of vitamins and minerals. Some even call it a “sea vegetable”CLICK TO TWEET

I definitely learned something new. I wish there was a Trader Joe’s near me. I am willing to try!

I like the alternative, kale. I’ve tried Seaweed and am just not a fan. However, kale and I have been kicking it for awhile now. I recently made a vegetarian quiche with spinach and kale. My family thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for the lesson. I’ll try to work my up to trying the teriyaki flavored seaweed.

I LOVE seaweed. Crunches like a chip, but so much better for you! They also sell prepackaged seaweed at Target, Publix and Kroger.

  • Judy McGee says:

    Had only heard of nori.

  • Sonia Hart says:
