It is such a blessing to know that I was created by God for fellowship with Him. He loves me so much that only did He create me, but He wants to talk with me while I’m on Earth and He wants to spend eternity with me…ME! There are days when even I don’t want to be around me. LOL!
I am a worshiper. I love to honor God with my voice and sing to Him and sing of Him. But it goes so far beyond that. Worship is truly a lifestyle. I get this. I’ve been taught this, but sometimes I fall short of worshiping God fully with my lifestyle. This reading was a great check-in to examine areas where my worship has fallen short.
This was a reminder that we, that I, often get worship wrong. Is was sometimes wrong because while the words I said or the things I’ve done were directed at pleasing Him, it was really more about me. How did it make me feel? Or at church we think about the praise team or the choir and did we go “in” today in worship. While we call it worship, it isn’t really about God at all. Beyond the lyrics sometimes the worship experience isn’t about God. It’s did I get my burdens lifted or did I cry or shout?
I do however, believe that our good feeling is a byproduct of pleasing God. I have nieces and nephews and when I do things for them, it truly is for them. But when I see them happy and pleased with what I’ve given them their response is reflected back to me and I in turn feel good about it too. This reading is about where does the worship initiate. Is the initial intent to please Him or is it to please ourselves?
I believe that our fitness journey is worship to God. We honor Him by using our body to glorify Him; by taking care of the physical temple of His spirit. What I love is that even with all our misconceptions of worship, God’s grace finds us where we are…each of us. Even when we fall short of our workout. Maybe we don’t go as hard as we know we could. Maybe our eating is off that day. Even in those moments of fallen worship, God’s grace finds us there and He picks us up and says, “It’s okay. I still love you. I still want to be in relationship with you. I created you for My pleasure.”
We worship for God’s benefit. When we worship, our goal is to bring pleasure to God, not ourselves.
This is the lesson I am taking from today’s reading. I must make sure that the things I do in my life bring pleasure to God whether it’s how I am at work; how I am with family and friends, or how I am with strangers. The more I live this way; the better of my life will be.
We must worship Him in spirit and in truth. Everything we do should be pleasing to God. Our thoughts, our words, our love for each other and our love towards Him brings pleasure. No matter what is going on, God is still God and He likes to hear our words of love and appreciation. It’s all about Him, we were created for His pleasure. Our desire to be healthy for the kingdom should be for Him.
David said, “I will thank the Lord at all times. My mouth will always praise him.”…. At “All Times” is what’s important. Daily prayer, praise and worship is what honors our God. Worship is done in many forms, music, reading His word, praying, honoring his commandments and living a life full of love and faithfulness honors our God. He created us to be a blessing to Him so He can bless us.
