I Can…You Can…We Can! (Philippians 4:13)

By January 14, 2018Be Inspired, Divas Who Pray

Happy New Year Divas! I’m so excited to be a part of the Fit Fyne Fabulous (FFF) team as the Sunday Inspiration Leader. My name is Priscilla Williams aka Cil and I believe that God’s word is truly a lamp unto our feet!

My Journey

Let me share a little bit about myself…I joined FFF in 2015 after a phone call from my friend Nicole (the founder of the group). She encouraged me to join the group and get started on the road to healthy living and losing weight.

I started in January of that year and it wasn’t easy, but the coaches and my partners kept me accountable and I lost over 55 pounds in less than a year.

About 5 years ago I started a blog titled Created Women of God. After a few months I was asked to speak at various programs for women, and held a few group sessions for women at my home. Two years ago, I discontinued this ministry to focus on my family. When I was asked to write a weekly blog for the Sunday Diva Prayer Chain, after much thought and prayer, I believed this was God giving me another opportunity to reconnect with women. So here I am 🙂 . My hope and prayer is that God uses me to reach you where you are and bless you with a Word from Him. I hope that it is none of me and all of Him as I share each week.

So…here it geauxs (goes)…

I Can…You Can…We Can! (Philippians 4:13)

As we start our 365 day journey into this New Year, let’s talk about having an ‘I Can’ mindset based on the scripture in Philippians 4:13 (I can do all things through Him who gives me strength). This was a recent struggle for me as I began the New Year.
In the past two months I have been faced with a lot of ‘newness’. New stuff can be exciting and challenging, and in my case it was both. However, after weeks of all the newness, something inside of me wanted to fall back into my old habits of negative thinking, doubt, and over eating.

See, my newness is really a totally new life; new home, new jobs, new city, new church, new everything! My husband and I relocated on Thanksgiving Day and moved in with my sister and her family in Louisiana. I quit my job, my husband started a new one and we closed on the sale our home in Alabama a few days before Christmas. By the New Year, I felt lost, out of balance, and was 20 plus pounds overweight (stress eating I guess 😥 ).

As you can imagine, my flesh wanted to act out and find a way to “feel” better about my life. But you see God has brought me a long way from the old Priscilla. I know He allowed me to be in this season because He knows I can handle it. But real-talk Divas, several times I felt like saying (well more like yelling), “I CAN’T DO THIS!!!”

One morning I woke up feeling sluggish, unhappy and lost. I sat in bed and thought, “wait, this is not me” (anymore) and I decided to pray and find a scripture to give me some strength. The scripture that popped up on my Bible app was Philippians 4:13 NIV, “I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” Then it hit me, this newness of life is a good thing. I just need to reconnect to Him who gives me strength, Jesus. I kept reading and meditating on this scripture and even shared it on my Instagram page (@divaswhopray).

This Word from God helped me to switch my mind set from, “I Can’t…” to “I Can Do This.” The life I lived a few months ago was great because of Jesus and the relationship I had with my Heavenly Father. So actually I can’t do any of this (and stay sane) in my own strength, but I can do this through Jesus, who gives me strength. After getting this Word in my mind and heart, I began to relax and draw even closer to my strength, Jesus.
So sisters, as you began this new 365 day journey into 2018, know that you can do ALL things through Christ who gives you strength.

• You have determined to lose weight – You Can (I Can)
• You want to eat clean and healthy – You Can (I Can)
• You want to get off medications with exercise and wise eating choices – You Can (I Can)
• You can do all these things through Christ who gives you strength.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word that you have provided us for direction, teaching, and inspiration. Thank you for allowing us to see a New Year and all the experiences this year will bring. As I begin this New Year there are goals I would like to accomplish and dreams I would like to see come true. I know each step I take towards these goals and dreams may not be easy. There might be times I get weak and want to give up, but Your Word says that “I can do all these things through Him who gives me strength”. Therefore I walk by faith on this Word that I can do the things I have set out to do this year. I ask that you bless each of the ladies of Fit Fyne Fabulous in everything they set out to accomplish, and I pray that you guide us all as we begin another New Year in this journey of life. Thank you for life and life more abundantly. Amen.
You (we) are not in this alone.

Cil thanks for sharing your testimony and the pray. You made me think about what I’m doing, and what is on my mind that is getting in my way of permanent lifestyle change. You see when I achieved the goal I wanted, I slipped back to some bad habits. You message “I Can” was definitely needed. I will be doing some soul searching because I believe I Can make this lifestyle change permanent.
