Learn to Meal Prep Fabulously: Day 1

By June 30, 2016Uncategorized

New to our “Free 7 Day Learn How to Meal Prep Fabulously” Course  Learn more about it HERE: Learn More

DAY 1: What Kind of Meal Prepper are You?

Today’s Goal: To gain an overall understanding of what is meal prep and why you should do it.  Divas completing today’s lesson will also learn the two main meal prep approaches.

TODAY’S EASY DIVA TASK:
1) Determine the number of days you will meal prep next week!
2) Determine if you will use the MAXIMUM meal prep approach or the MINIMUM meal prep approach.

WHAT is Meal Prep?
Meal prep is exactly what it sounds like– prepping meals in advance! It can be entire meals, or parts of meals.

WHY You Should Meal Prep?
Meal prep will ultimately make your life easier / more efficient. Portion control is covered, time and money are saved, and we don’t have to decide what to eat later on because a healthy choice is readily available for you. If you had the choice between a processed food option and a healthy and delicious meal that was already prepared for you– many of us would probably go for the healthier prepared option. So many people WANT to make healthy choices but we want it to be EASY. Make it easy on yourself by prepping ahead so that healthy and delicious meal is waiting for you… tempting you!

WHEN Should You Meal Prep?
Once or twice a week. Most people choose at least one day over the weekend when they have a bit more time.

HOW To Meal Prep?
Many of us think we don’t even have time for meal prep, but chances are, if we added up all of the time we spend creating healthy meals every single day, we would end up spending MORE time doing that than prepping beforehand! Set yourself up for success by prioritizing your meal prep. Set time aside 1-2 days a week where you can do as little or as much meal prep as you need to make it effective. Some of us will need more prepping than others. Some people prefer to prep EVERY MEAL in advance, and for that reason they’ll eat the same thing every day. Some people prefer to eat different things and therefore find ways to prep a little bit at a time and make creating the final meal go a little more smoothly.

What Kind of Meal Prep Works for You?
Keep in mind that these types of meal prep are the “extremes” on the spectrum, and it is common to fall somewhere in between the two. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to meal prep, but there will likely be a way that works better for you.

Here are the facts to consider when determining what works for you, but remember– pros and cons are not necessarily weighed equally. It is likely that trial and error will play a role, and you’ll learn how you best meal-prep as you go!

MINIMUM MEAL PREP
PROS:
• Less time is spent initially
• Less pre-prep planning is necessary
• More flexibility & versatility among meals

CONS:

Hi! Just received Day 1’s challenge… Very excited to get started! Does meal prep include cooking meals in advance and refrigerating or freezing until ready to eat or is it planning, purchasing, portioning, cutting, chopping, seasoning, etc and freezing until ready to cook?

    • Coach Twy says:

  • Veronica Denson says:

I am a therapist that works out of my car literally. How do I meal prep for breakfast and lunch when warm food is less likely an option to store in the car.

    • Coach Twy says:

How Veronica, we can definitely help you think this through. First, we have a few questions.

How many days a week do you work?
      How many hours per day?
Are you driving yourself? Is there anyone else in the car? Do you have access to a microwave at your destinations?
Do you pass grocery stores on your travels? (they have microwaves and salad bars)
Have you considered getting a meal prep bag that keeps your food warm? Do you drink smoothies or protein shakes?
Look forward to hearing back from you! Let’s build a plan that WORKS for you schedule sis!

      • Veronica Denson says:

How many days a week do you work? 40+
How many hours per day? 8 that includes drive time
        Are you driving yourself? Yes
Is there anyone else in the car? No
Do you have access to a microwave at your destinations? No
Do you pass grocery stores on your travels? (they have microwaves and salad bars) tight schedule don’t have time to stop often between clients. My clients live 30min-1hr from each other so I book them back to back only giving time to drive and on occasions I have wider gaps when I can stop to grab food and stuff. However that’s probably 2 out of 5 days I can do that.
Have you considered getting a meal prep bag that keeps your food warm? Didn’t know that existed
Do you drink smoothies or protein shakes? I have in the past
